Windischgarsten
story
In 1903, five men from the Windischgarsten Alpine Club, including Emil and Adolf Zeller, got together at the Zöls inn and founded the "alpine rescue service".
Windischgarsten, along with the cities of Linz, Wels and Steyr, had a mountain rescue service very early on.
Until 1938, the mountain rescue service was run under the Alpine Association and finally came into being as an independent association after World War II. The founding members of the Windischgarsten mountain rescue service in 1947 included the brothers Franz, Sepp and Erich Breitenbaumer, Sylvester Ebner, Franz and Michael Kniewasser, Ernst Salzinger, and the mountain rescuers Habacher, Kronberger and Windhager.
