Until the beginning of the  second  World War  the rescue from the mountains was organized by the Alpine Clubs.
In 1945, the board of directors of the Alpenverein and Naturfreunde asked the enthusiastic mountaineer Adolf Haslauer to set up an alpine rescue team.
Willi Schnöll, Christian Scheutz, Willi Kammerer, Viktor Pfleger and Richard Grabmaier as head of operations were the first mountain rescuers in Bad Goisern. It was a difficult time. There were no recovery devices and no real ropes. Equipment for the mountain troops was obtained from the occupying powers.
When the Upper Austrian mountain rescue service was founded in 1947, the Goiserer Group immediately joined it. A year later, along with other new mountain rescuers, Hermann Peham reinforced the team. This has already had numerous difficult climbs and is still known to climbers today as the first ascent of the direct south-east face of the Predigstuhl.
In 1955, Franz Rehn took over the position of the local branch manager. His predecessor Adolf Haslauer became head of operations. Mountain and skiing accidents have increased over the years. Only with a lot of personal commitment could the money for the purchase of rescue equipment be raised. After Adolf Haslauer had already completed more than 300 salvage operations, he received the "silver medal with red ribbon for services to the Republic of Austria" from Governor Gleißner in 1962 on behalf of the Federal President. From 1967 Adolf Haslauer was again in charge of the local office. Due to his move to Linz in 1969, however, he had to resign from this position.
Rupert Stüger took over the management for a year after having already been head of operations for two years. This  task was taken on by Josef Moosbrugger, who had just moved to Bad Goisern and, as an excellent mountaineer and experienced operations manager in Styria, had already successfully carried out difficult rescue operations in the Dachstein massif. He held this office until 1995 and was only replaced this year by Dr. Robert Miller replaced.
Helmar Putz was OSTL from 1970 to 1974, since Rupert Stüger was unable to perform this function for professional reasons. After a crisis in 1975, the existence of the Goiserer mountain rescue service seemed endangered, but it was rebuilt under the leadership of Rupert Stüger. More exercises were held and the access of numerous young mountain rescuers increased the clout of the task force.

Since 1986, Heinz Lichtenegger has been at the head of the Bad Goisern mountain rescue service. Under his leadership, the "equipment room" was expanded into an operations center with a training and radio room, as well as an equipment room. All work was carried out by the FRG men in voluntary working hours.

Now a renewal and expansion of the   rooms of the Bad Goisern mountain rescue service has become necessary.

The successor as local manager has taken over since 2009 Christian Gangl.
